i see, after over 3 months since i started a new fun thing, that i didn't manage to update one, lowly time. wow, what an eye opener to my own goals! i embarrass myself.
the only excuse i have is that during that time i had 2 jewelry shows so i spent a LOT of waking moments, or even 60% of them, working on it. the shows were both in November and then once they were over it was holiday time which was shortened this year and occupied a great deal of my time.
but, i digress...
1. Driving North by Chris Pureka
i have really loved a few of her songs over several years. the first one i adored (and subsequently played for everyone within an inch of closeness to me) was "Burning Bridges"...a link to that one is here.
After awhile, i began to listen to her other songs and this particular song has to be amongst my top favorite songs ever. i can listen to it over and over for hours (and i have done that!). her voice feels so raw and yet smooth...effortless, rough even in its truth. my favorite verse of this song is:
"Could you build me a guardrail
To keep me from falling off of the ledge?
Or throw me a rope and pull me out of this?
Could you sew me a flag to remind me
Where I stand without you it's easy to forget
And this is all that's left
Just these sad sad songs
If you're going to go your way
I guess I'll carry myself along"
...really, when i looked again at the lyrics, i truly had trouble choosing which of them was a favorite. i can't really choose. the song, melody, and lyrics just resonate with so many times and things i've felt, and you might too.
(no good video of this seems to exist so this one will have to do)
2. Mountain Sound by Of Monsters and Men
this song is just easy-peasy to listen and fun. this group proves they aren't a one-hit-wonder. this song gives me the urge to dance, be goofy, and sing out loud!
3. The Stable Song by Gregory Alan Isakov
oh.my.god..... i am so, SO in love with this song.
"now i’ve been crazy couldn’t you tell
i threw stones at the stars, but the whole sky fell"
